New film by Slumdog director Danny Boyle

Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle looks set to make another film based in the Indian capital after reportedly buying the rights to the book Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found, by Indian-born New York writer Suketu Mehta.

Whilst filming Slumdog Millionaire, which took £220 million at the box office, Boyle said that Mehta's book 'became my bible. I took it with me everywhere' as it acted as his guide to the Indian slums.

The book, first published in 2004, explores the lives of the many colourful characters of Mumbai - from slum dwellers to Hindu radicals.

Boyle is still very much involved in the lives of the actors who appeared in his celebrated film. Last week, he travelled to Mumbai to help the two child stars of Slumdog Millionaire whose illegal homes had been bulldozed by authorities.

He said that he was determined to push through his plan to buy flats for the families who had lost their homes and has set up a trust to look after them. Boyle said: 'When we saw the news stories that the kids' homes had been demolished it was of course a huge concern to us.

'We are here to meet the members of the trust... and accelerate the process of getting them rehoused.'
