Obama to become first sitting president to appear on chat show

By Emma Sibbles  on Thursday 19 March 2009

Barack Obama, news, Marie Claire

Barack Obama is set to become the first sitting US president to appear on a late night chat show tomorrow as the guest of Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

Obama will be talking about his economic rescue plan for America.

The White House clarified that it was a way of explaining the economic situation but critics have accused him of dumbing down the presidency.

Obama has already given a live TV address to the nation and broadcast messages on YouTube in an attempt to get his message across to Americans.

Leno’s show has five million viewers but executives are hoping to double that during Obama’s 10-minute slot this evening.

Obama appeared on the show as a presidential candidate.
