The rising style star of the political world, Michelle Obama, has had her first official portrait picture taken as the First Lady of the White House.

After delivering a host of style hits, wearing designers including Tracy Reese, Peter Soronen and her fashion favourite, Jason Wu, this time Mrs Obama channels Audrey Hepburn in a Michael Kors black shift dress, accessorised with a string of pearls as she poses in the Blue Rooms of the President’s home.

Gracing the March cover of US Vogue and a recent issue of People magazine, Michelle’s style tastes have been a huge talking point among the fashion elite and the First Lady has received a shower of praise for her fashion forward, yet fitting, choices.

The President’s wife may have nailed her signature style, but she is determined to keep her feet firmly on the ground, despite her new-found surroundings and designer labels.

In a recent interview, the First Lady opened up on her adjustment to life in Washington with daughters Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10.

‘I’m going to try to take them to school every morning – as much as I can,’ she says. ‘But there’s also a measure of independence. And obviously there will be times I won’t be able to drop them off at all. I like to be a presence in my kids' school. I want to know the teacher; I want to know the other parents.’

Good for her, in an age where fitness is encouraged, show yours. If my arms were toned, I would be prous to show them too. I think it is an encouragement to American women, to get into and stay in shape. Michelle Obama is a great representative to the rest of the world, at how healthy we are.

I don't know why fitness inters into it. Apparently, she just likes sleeveless outfits and should wear them if she likes.
