Most unfortunate names in UK revealed
By Lucy Halfhead on Thursday 26 February 2009
It may sound like a bad joke, but some of the most amusing names in Britain have been revealed in a new study.
Just imagine growing up as Annette Curtain, Tim Burr, Justin Case or Barb Dwyer. Joining them on the list are Terry Bull, Paige Turner, Mary Christmas and Anna Sasin.
Researchers from parenting group TheBabyWebsite.com uncovered these gems after trawling through online telephone records.
Retired airman Stan Still, 76, from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, said his name had been ‘a blooming millstone around my neck my entire life’. ‘When I was in the RAF my commanding officer used to shout, ‘Stan Still, get a move on’ and roll about laughing,’ he said.
But 51-year-old Rose Bush, from Coventry, West Midlands, said she loved her name. ‘I always get comments about it but they are always very positive,’ she said.
A spokesman for TheBabyWebsite.com said: ‘When the parents of some of those people mentioned named their children, many probably didn't even realise the implications at the time.
‘Parents really do need to think carefully though when choosing names for their children. Their name will be with them for life and what may be quirky and fun for a toddler might be regretted terribly when that person becomes older or even a grandparent perhaps.’
More Unfortunate Names:
Pearl Button
Jo King
Barry Cade

I feel really sorry for anyone with weird names like this.
I am never going to name any future children with a name like that. Plus, I don't think there could be a weird name that ends with 'Williams'

I have taught
Roger Moore, John Wain, Stuart Grainger, and Mel Gibson.
One of my son's friends was Richard Head - sounds OK until you shorten the first name to its usual form-
I knew a woman who became Mary Christmas after her marriage.
I was at college with a Physics Student called P.D. Watt! (This is one of the "pleasantly funny" ones.)
I also knew a Jill Bailey, & people used to sing to her all the time.
Maybe people think its funny at the time, but the poor kid has to put up with it for the rest of their lives.
