Charles Saatchi to launch X Factor for budding artists
If you fancy yourself as the next Picasso then grab your paintbrush as a new talent show for contemporary artists is being launched by art don, Charles Saatchi.
The hunt is on for Britain’s next budding Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin in a talent show, dubbed ‘X Factor for artists’.
Nigella’s hubby, Charles Saatchi, is set to front the new BBC2 series, after the infamous art collector elevated many of the Young British Artists into the limelight during the 90s.
Saatchi’s Best of British will welcome a breadth of mediums including installation art, painting, digital media, sculpture, printmaking, and performance art.
After a gruelling selection process which will see examples of contestants’ work heavily scrutinised, six finalists will be sifted to attend an intensive art school.
The burgeoning artists will be tutored by top contemporary artists before showing their work at an upcoming Saatchi exhibition in St Petersburg, Russia.
Mr Saatchi said: ‘I am looking forward to the prospect of finding undiscovered British talent. Anyone with a fresh creative approach should enter, because nobody knows where the next art star will emerge from.’
Executive show producer, Peter Dale commented: ‘For viewers who are passionate about this art form, the programme offers a fascinating insight behind the scenes and into the minds that create the work, what inspires it and what it means.
‘For others, it will be a journey of discovery as the series demystifies the subject and makes the art more accessible. The debate will be reflected, not only in the programmes, but also on the series website where viewers will be invited to share their opinions.’
