Woman's $10 million lotto win

Lottery winner, news, Marie Claire

As Charlotte Peters tried to come to terms with her husband's death she went about the painful process of sorting out his possessions - little did she know that amongst her beloved Donald's things was a winning lottery ticket.

Hours before dieing of a heart attack, on November 1, the 79-year-old had bought two lottery tickets at his local 7-Eleven store in Danbury, Connecticut.

On Friday, his widow cashed in the winning ticket to discover she had won a whopping $10 million (£6.9 million).

'I'm numb,' said the 78-year-old.

'I've always wanted a Corvette, but I don't think I'll buy one," she said. "I'll stick to a small car. I might go to Mohegan Sun casino. I'm going to go home and sit and think.'

The Peters children think their father would have appreciated the irony.

'He'd be very mad, he just passed away and she won a lot of money,' said Brian Peters, one of the couple's three children. 'He'd say, 'Figures!'
