Barack Obama hopes to 'burst White House bubble' in latest interview
Barack Obama has talked openly about adjusting to his new life as the next US President in an American TV interview with ABC News.
The President-elect chatted to renowned interviewer Barbara Walters and covered a huge range of topics including America's future economic policy and, on a more personal level, adjusting their family life to an altogether larger environment.
Walters didn't shy away from any topic, including the increased risk to Obama's own security. Since he was elected to the White House, law enforcement officials have seen potential threatening writings and racist Internet postings sprouting up. However, Obama revealed he doesn't reflect on his own safety.
'Part of it because I've got this pretty terrific crew of Secret Service guys that follow me everywhere I go, but also because I have a deep religious faith and faith in people that carries me through the day,' he said. 'And my job is just to make sure I'm doing my job, and if I do, I can't worry about that kind of stuff.'
Obama revealed that during this strange time of transition he's still trying to keep healthy by eating nourishing food, working out regularly and holding back from cigarettes – although he didn't admit to quitting altogether.
The soon-to-be-President also divulged his aim to burst the bubble that surrounds the White House and stay well-informed about goings on.
'One of the things that I'm going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation - the bubble that exists around the president. I'm in the process of negotiating with the Secret Service, with lawyers, with White House staff… to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House.'
