ER creator dies

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Michael Crichton

The best-selling author of Jurassic Park and creator of ER, Michael Crichton, has died.

He had been battling cancer, but, his family say, he died 'unexpectedly' on Tuesday at his home in LA.

Most famous for his Jurassic Park and ER creations, the author – who was a huge 6ft 9in – first enjoyed success in 1969 when The Andromeda Strain was published while he was still studying at Harvard Medical School.

He went on to sell 150 million copies of his books – which were labelled 'techno thrillers' due to their scientific themes – worldwide,  and saw 13 movies created from his writing.

Along with Jurassic Park and ER, the books Congo, Sphere, Rising Sun and Disclosure were among his most famous works.

Crichton had a lively love life, and was married five times. He had one daughter, Taylor, with his final wife, Sherri.
