Want to know more about Barack Obama? Ask wife Michelle

Marie Claire news: Barack Obama

With the biggest task ahead of him, we've heard Barack Obama's understated victory speech and it seems fairly certain that he's won the hearts of many Americans and people the world over, but what's the man really like behind closed doors?

Well, thanks to his soon-to-be-First Lady wife, Michelle, we've been fed a few titbits on Mr President across his two-year campaign. We now know that the president elect never puts the butter away, can't make beds and tends to be a little smelly in the mornings.

Despite some critics stating Michelle's small revelations have emasculated him, we think they've done just the opposite; down-to-earth humility is rare thing in politicians.

Yesterday, in his victory speech, Barack Obama named his wife as his 'best friend for the last 16 years' and 'the rock of my family'. In turn, Michelle has been keen to manage the expectations that have been laid on her husband. She told newspaper USA Today earlier this year: 'He is going to stumble… make mistakes and say things you don't agree with.'

But reassuring, and the thing so many of us warm to is the Obama's honesty. Michelle recently admitted: 'Our lives are so close to normal, if there is such a thing when you're running for President.'

'When I'm off the road, I'm going to Target to get the toilet paper and I'm standing on soccer fields.'
