US anchorwoman Anne Pressly dies

Marie Claire News: Anne Pressly

Anne Pressly, the US anchorwoman who had a cameo role in the new George Bush film W., has died after being brutally beaten at her home a week ago.

The TV presenter was discovered by her mother last Monday and had been hit around the head, neck and face. The 26-year-old was so badly injured she was unable to communicate with her family or the police.

Ms Pressly died at a hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Saturday evening, in the town where she was a television presenter for KATV, a spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed.

Ms Pressly's parents released a statement following their daughter's death asking for privacy while they grieve. 'It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home.'

'We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our heavenly father.'

Since her death, tributes for the anchorwoman have poured in, with KATV President and General Manager Dale Nicholson describing her as 'serious about her work without taking herself too seriously.'

'If you didn't know her, you need only look at the pictures - the warmth, the sincerity, the joy of the moment are always evident...And of course there was that smile,' he said in a statement.

The search is now on for Ms Pressly's killer but so far police have been unable to identify a suspect. Her credit card was reportedly used at a petrol station close to her home, following the attack.

The TV presenter was attacked the night after she went to watch her cameo appearance in Oliver Stone's new satirical biopic W., which portrays the imagined world of life in the White House during Bush's presidency.

KATV have laid down a $30,000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest in the case.
