eBay scam 'every hour'
Next time you scout eBay for a coveted designer frock, you might think twice after new figures reveal a scam takes place every hour on the auction site.
In the past year, users of the buy and sell site reported almost 8,000 crimes, which included theft, handling stolen goods, financial fraud and obtaining property by deception.
Hampshire was top of the eBay crime list with 457 recorded crimes on the site, closely followed by Wiltshire (420) and Leicester (386).
A whopping 20 million items are up for grabs on the site at any given time and 3.5 million new products are uploaded to the site every day.
eBay's UK head of law enforcement, Steve Edwards, said 2,000 police officers were being trained up to identify possible criminal activity on the website.
Edwards commented: 'So far this year we have seen a 15% reduction in the number of people having a bad experience or being defrauded on our site.'
'If anything, we are encouraged by these figures as they clearly demonstrate that you can't get away with illegal activity on our site.'
