Josef Fritzl returns to dungeon in Austria

Marie Claire News: Josef Fritzl

Josef Fritzl has returned to his home in Austria to show investigators the dungeon where he kept his daughter, Elisabeth, and the seven children he fathered with her.

The 74-year-old constructed the underground prison to hide his daughter and the children she gave birth to for 24 years.

It has been reported that Fritzl raped Elisabeth over 3,000 times during the course of her imprisonment.

Fritzl was taken from his jail cell to the house in Amstetten with three police officers and a judge who took testimony from him earlier this week.

Judge Nikolais Obrovski ordered the visit to the cellar to get general details and specifically the last of eight doors used to block it from the outside world.

He also wished to hear more about Fritzl's proposed 'escape plan' for Elisabeth and their children if anything ever happened to Fritzl.

Officials overseeing the case reportedly said 'he was not convincing' about his plan to use a time-release clock that would free his prisoners, as no such device was uncovered in the dungeon.

After two hours at the property Fritzl was driven back to his jail cell, while Austrian authorities continue to deliberate over what he should be charged with.
