Fat Duck restaurant wins Good Food Guide
Heston Blumenthal's infamous restaurant, The Fat Duck, has been named the best restaurant in Britain after scoring top marks in the Good Food Guide.
The restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, was given a perfect ten out of ten for its 'wonderous enchantment' and is the first restaurant in four years to score full marks.
The last eaterie to received the same accolade was Gordon Ramsay's eponymous London restaurant in Chelsea.
Blumenthal is renowned for his unusual and experimental dishes including snail porridge, black olive and leather puree and bacon and egg ice cream.
Although the restaurant won the same award last year, it was only rewarded nine out of ten.
Good Food Guide reviewers have dined anonymously at the establishment over the last 12 months and have heaped praise on every aspect of the restaurant.
One reviewer wrote: 'This is the restaurant as theatre, with waiters as performers.'
The Guide's editor, Elizabeth Carter added: 'What do we want a restaurant to do? Feed us well, memorably, courteously, and add value for money. The Fat Duck does all that – and much more. It's great fun and it all adds up to a dining experience of the most wondrous enchantment.'
'It's extremely rare that a restaurant cooks perfectly on a consistent basis, but we've had so many superlative reports that we're delighted to recognise The Fat Duck as the best restaurant in Britain.'
