Antigua couple buried at church where married
Rex Features
The honeymoon couple who were murdered in Antigua have been buried at the church where they were married.
Ben and Catherine Mullany were both shot and murdered after a failed burglary at their holiday cottage on the Caribbean island last month. The newly weds were killed on the last day of their honeymoon.
Family of the couple said in a statement that a memorial service for extended family, friends and colleagues would be held at a later date.
Catherine Mullany, who was a doctor, was killed instantly during the attack but her husband Ben, a trainee physiotherapist, survived the attack but was left in a coma. He was flown back to Britain a week after the incident but died from his injuries on 3 August.
A statement was released yesterday by the couple's families through South Wales Police and said: 'A private burial service for our children Ben and Catherine was held earlier today.
'It was our wish that the burial was held in private and we thank the media for respecting our privacy.
'The media are asked to continue to respect our wishes to be able to grieve in private and to try to come to terms with the terrible events of the past few weeks.'
The burial service was held at St John the Evangelist church in Cilybebyll where the Mullanys married on 12 July..
At least 30 people have been questioned in connection with the shootings, however police in Antigua say there are still no concrete suspects. British officers were requested to help with the inquiry and eight have flown out to the island to help with the investigation.

They both look so happy in their wedding photo and although their families are devastated at least they are together in death as they were in life.
I hope they find the killers soon and they rot in hell for killing two wonderful people.
RIP Ben & Catherine.
