JK Rowling announced richest celebrity
Rex Features
Harry Potter is still working his magic for JK Rowling who has been thrust to the top of Forbes magazine's annual list of world billionaires.
The author earned more than anyone else on the Forbes list with a whopping £150 million in earnings last year. Rowling even pipped chat-show doyenne Oprah Winfrey to the post, who took home £137.5 million.
According to the magazine, the magic novels about the boy wizard have sold 375 million copies worldwide and the latest in the series, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, has sold 44 million since it was published last July.
The popularity of the Harry Potter films saw the main stars appear in the so-called 'tweens' list produced by Forbes. Nineteen-year-old Daniel Radcliffe shared the top spot with 15-year-old Hannah Montana star, Miley Cyrus, who both earned themselves a cool £12.5 million last year.
Radcliffe's co-stars Emma Watson, 18, and Rupert Grint, 19, both appeared in the top 10, earning £2.75 million and £2.5 million respectively.
The Brits reigned supreme with Keira Knightly being named the second highest-paid Hollywood actress last year, earning £16 million for her roles in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie and the adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel, Atonement.
Knightley's earnings were enhanced by her lucrative contract as the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfume, but she lost out to the top female actress, Cameron Diaz who took home £25 million for her roles in Shrek and What Happens In Vegas.
