Woman awarded £7,000 for snapped heel

Marie Claire fashion news: High heel shoes

A student who broke an ankle when her shoe heel snapped has been awarded over £7,000 compensation.

Sophie King was wearing a pair of £35 Dolcis shoes for the first time on a night out, in November 2004.

The 20-year old recalls, 'As I was walking down the tram platform the shoe snapped and I went over on it. It was really painful but I didn't want to ruin the night for everyone so we went on to the first bar.

'I began to feel better after a couple of drinks. But then the next thing I knew I'd passed out and was in the back of an ambulance.'

The injury forced Miss King to leave her job as a waitress, and left her unable to play sports.

She took the shoe store to court, where the company admitted that the shoes were faulty. Dolcis went into administration in January and is no longer trading.

The landmark ruling could open the doors for an influx of similar cases.
