Polygamist sect

The astounding pictures of female members of a polygamist sect in Texas, clad in dress from another century, have been released after the launch of the state's largest child abuse inquiry.

The images could come straight from a film set or an episode of Little House on the Prairie, as over 400 children and 130 women have been removed from a sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS).

The ranch was raided by the authorities on Friday following a phonecall from a 16-year-old girl who said she was being abused. She revealed to police that girls of 14 and 15 were being forced into marriage with much older men.

Warren Jeffs, who built the compound, is now in jail for 10 years to life for being an accomplice to the rape of a 14-year-old and state police are currently holding a number of men as they search the 1,700 acre property.

Women were seen willingly leaving the Yearning for Zion Ranch, dressed in home-sewn, ankle-length dresses with their hair pinned up in braids.

Polygamy in America is illegal, however the FLDS believe a man must marry at least three wives to go to heaven.
