London Europe's dirtiest city

Our capital is the dirtiest and most expensive city in Europe, according to a new survey.

London beat Paris in both categories, however the capital was deemed to have the best nightlife and public parks.

The French city topped the list for the best shopping destination; however it was Paris who was considered to have the most unfriendly hosts, according to the survey of travellers, conducted by TripAdvisor.

If it's a welcoming atmosphere you're after then head to Dublin, which was considered to have the most helpful locals.

Brussels was slammed as the most boring European city, closely followed by Zurich (voted the cleanest city), Oslo, Warsaw and Zagreb.

Predictably, it was Paris that took the award for the most romantic destination, with Venice and Rome following in second and third place.

Ian Rumgay, of TripAdvisor, said: 'It may be considered expensive but it seems that London's still the best for travellers and the canny ones will always find good value.'
