Angelina visits Iraq

Angelina Jolie has visited Iraq in her position as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The actress has been touring the Middle East going from Amman in Jordan to Iraq's capital, Baghdad, accompanying Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky 'to learn more about the humanitarian crisis and the 4 million displaced people, 58% of whom are under 12.'

The 32-year-old star, travelling without Brad Pitt or her brood, spoke to CNN about the reasons for her visit.

'I felt I had to come here because it is very difficult to get answers about the internally displaced people,' she said.

Angelina continued: 'There's lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment, and a lot of pieces that need to be put together. I'm trying to figure out what they are.'

On visiting the war-torn country, she has called for a more rational plan for refugees to return to their homes.

'What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East,' she said. 'And a big part of what it's going to affect, how it settles, is how these people are returned and settled into their homes and their community and brought back together and whether they can live together and what their communities look like.'

Although Angelina spoke openly about her reasons for visiting the Middle East, she was less inclined to discuss her personal life. When quizzed by a CNN reporter about her rumoured pregnancy, Angelina responded: 'Oh, don't. Stop it. Stay true to your tradition. You're CNN. Don't do it!'
