Kate and Gerry McCann will face fresh questioning after Portugal's public prosecutor, Jose Magalhaes e Menezes, makes legal moves to ask British police to interview the couple and the rest of the ‘Tapas Nine’ over their movements on the night of Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

Portugese police want to talk to the McCanns and the seven friends who dined with them at the Ocean Club holiday complex in Praia da Luz on the evening of 3 May last year, to clear up ‘inconsistencies’ in their stories about what happened the night of Madeleine’s disappearance.

Police believe Madeleine died in an accident, which the McCanns then covered up.

Kate and Gerry deny any involvement in the toddler’s disappearance and believe she was abducted. They are said to welcome the new interviews and hope they will clear their names as suspects in their daughter’s disappearance.

The legal letters, approved by judge Pedro Frias, who is overseeing the investigation, were sent on Monday afternoon by Mr Magalhaes e Menezes, the public prosecutor in Portimao, near Praia da Luz, through the EU body Eurojust.

British authorities will receive them by the end of the week and will then make preparations to interview the so-called Tapas Nine.

Portuguese detectives - who reportedly believe they now have enough evidence to prosecute the couple - will fly to the UK to sit in on the interviews, which will be carried out by officers from Leicestershire police.

Meanwhile, Kate and Gerry are reportedly in talks over a £2 million film deal of the story of Madeleine’s disappearance.

Representatives of the couple have begun negotiations with the world's largest entertainment agency, IMG, over selling the rights to their story.

The pair reportedly hope a lucrative deal will fund the continuing search for Madeleine amid fears that the £1.2 million raised from public donations will run out within months.

My heart bleeds for the little girl, and I worry over what may happen/has happened to her. However, money raised to fund the search by the shocked public across the world, has so we have been told by the press, already been routed elsewhere for the personal gains of the mother and father. Under such circumstances why do we all feel compelled to keep digging into our pockets, whilst mother and father sit back and make money out of this sordid mess?!
When will the family pay for their own sins and mistakes and leave the rest of the world to get on with their own problems!
