Gap child abuse allegations

Marie Claire Galleries: Celebrity Gap Ad Campaign

GAP HAS CUT orders by 50% at a supplier facing child labour accusations. The Associated Press reports that Gap has placed the vendor on a probation period of six months and cut back their orders until the issue is resolved.

The cuts follow allegations first made last month in The Observer, which claimed that Gap had produced an item of clothing in a factory that employed child labour. The offending garment was quickly withdrawn from stores, and an investigation launched.

Gap placed the blame with the vendor who had been contracted to make the garment, and stated that the business had been sub-contracted without Gap's approval.

In response to the allegations, Gap will donate $200,000 to improving working conditions in India.
