Porth Enys House is a luxury place to spend a festive Christmas weekend

Mousehole, (pronounced Mowzel - it can be very embarrassing if you get that wrong, we learnt the hard way) in Cornwall is becoming the Christmas destination. But why? What does this little fishing village on the West coast of Cornwall have to offer that the Christmas markets of Bavaria and the bright lights of New York don't?

Tom Bawcock's Eve, that's what.

Every year the Mousehole locals throw a traditional pre-Christmas celebration to commemorate Mr Bawcock, who, many years ago, saved the village from famine by bracing the stormy seas to bring back fish for the starving villagers.

The occasion is now marked by a spectacular Christmas lights switch on, where the pretty harbour is lit up in a dazzling display. Add to this a good helping of the famous Stargazey Pie made by the Ship Inn, consisting of mixed fish, egg and potato with fish heads poking out through the crust, in honour of Tom Bawcock, plus a choir service led by the Mousehole Male Voice Choir, and you've got yourself a warmingly cosy Christmas weekend.

Nestled just a short walk from the village sits Porth Enys House, which is the ideal place to shack up in Mousehole. Set within 20 acres of land and with 1/3 mile of private shoreline, we can't think of a better place to heat up some mulled wine, cosy up and watch a film in the state-of-the-art cinema room.

With five extremely specious bedrooms set over three floors, the house can comfortable sleep 8-10 people, all who will enjoy stunning views of the sea and the rugged Cornish coastline.

In the age of the staycation Porth Enys House is a cut above with all the little luxuries that make a break all the more an escape from reality. Think wood burners, Molton Brown toiletries and a private chef (at an additional charge).
