The Pre-Holiday - 2010's hottest new travel trend

While 2009 was all about the staycation, with the country bouncing back from recession, there's a brand new travel trend for 2010: the pre-holiday.

Indulgent it may be, but the industry is seeing a new breed of super-organised women booking week-long getaways in the run-up to Christmas, to ensure they're calm and rested before the traditional holidays begin.

'Christmas and New Year might mean time off work, but with all the parties, not to mention cooking for friends and family, it doesn't really feel like a holiday,' one pre-holiday advocate told us. 'A friend suggested a yoga retreat at the end of October and it seemed such a sensible solution. Since I've booked, another friend has joined our little threesome and two girls at work have followed suit and signed up for bootcamp in Spain for the first week of December.'

A step ahead of the trend, Stay Eco Chic is offering Wellness Weeks in Lanzarote this November, staying in luxurious yurts at eco-retreat Finca de Arrieta. With daily yoga classes, spa treatments and massage therapy, plus a special healthy eating plan, the idea is to ensure all guest leave looking and feeling a million times better than when they arrived. And, because so many of Stay Eco Chic's guests spend their day-to-day lives making decision after decision, the ethos here is get rid of the 'what shall we do next?' aspect and plan everything for you. Sounds blissful! Check out www.stayecochic.com for more details.

PS We've just had a call from Stay Eco Chic offering all marieclaire.co.uk readers 10% off Wellness Weeks. And, to make it ultra-easy, your discount will automatically be triggered when you click through from our site.

Wow, this is just what I and some friends have been looking for, and set in an Eco-retreat as well! At last my husband will know what to buy me for my Birthday this year...

What a brilliant idea, no longer do I have to put up with long haul flights to Thailand for a super spa and relation experience before Christmas, I can still top up my tan because the weather is great that time of year. And I can feel good about my carbon footprint at the same time. I know there are some really good bars and restaurants in the island too.

Sounds fab, I love the idea of staying in a Yurt and the chance to get some quality rest and relaxation. Going to check my diary now and see if I can schedule a holiday that week!

Had never thought of Lanzarote for an eco holiday. Love the idea now though...

Whilst on holiday late last year I visited the retreat and was so disappointed I didn't book my week away there. It was absolutely amazing; chilled, friendly, beautiful with such a fabulous range of people.I'm booking for this year!
