Love in London
With its historic skyline, funky bars and friendly bouncers, London is one of the world's most romantic cities. With Valentine's Day just round the corner, we've got people talking about how they found love in London.
Read on and find out how you could win a 5-star romantic break for two!
Philippa (28) & Tom (29) live in Westminster.
Philippa: Tom and I met purely by chance on the first day of September in 2007, when I had just moved to London from Melbourne. I had only been in London for about six weeks.
Tom: It was at a party at a bar in Notting Hill. My sister was going and asked me to give her a lift and suggested I come too. When we got there, I found out it was £10 to get in so I decided not to bother (as I was skint at the time!) and walked off. I was two or three blocks away when I heard someone running after me. To my surprise it was the bouncer. He said that he'd let me in for free. When does that ever happen?!
Philippa: By the time Tom made it into the bar, I was saying goodbye to everyone as I'd planned an early night. I went over to say a quick hello to Tom's sister and then I noticed a tall, handsome guy wandering over to her. She introduced us, we started talking and I knew within a few minutes I wasn't going anywhere!
Tom: Our first date was on the South Bank a week later. After dinner we walked down the Embankment towards the Tate Modern and had our first kiss on the Millennium Bridge, just as St Paul's was striking midnight.
Philippa: About six weeks ago, Tom took me back to the Wagamama's on the South Bank, where we had our first date and even though it was pouring with rain, we took the same walk. We finally got to the Millennium Bridge (after having to cross Blackfriars Bridge and go back over because of flooding!) and Tom got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. St Paul's was striking again too. It was perfect.
Tom: I was feeling pretty nervous as we walked over the bridge. But when we reached the spot where we first kissed it all came together. I went down on one knee and asked Philippa to marry me. She exclaimed "Yes, of course!" I was so happy I hardly noticed I'd been kneeling slap bang in a huge puddle!
Philippa and Tom plan to get married in London later this year.
