Aldi to sell holidays
Supermarket chain Aldi is adding cut-price holidays to its heaving, discounted shelves.
The bargain basement chain, which has more than 400 stores in the UK, will start selling cheap city breaks from January, alongside its famous £1.89 anti-ageing moisturiser, £5 tents and 79p pasta sauce.
The company already sells holidays in its Austrian, Swiss and German branches (there are 7,000 shops worldwide), and thinks Britain is finally ready to start adding holidays to the supermarket trolley, too.
'Our sales are up 26% this month, year-on-year,' group buying director Sarah Butler told The Guardian. 'Half our customers are ABC1s now. We see a lot coming in also carrying Waitrose bags. The credit crunch gave a jolt to people to look to stores like Aldi to see what they can offer.'
So what exactly is on offer? Well, a week in Tenerife will set you back just £6.50 per night and three nights in Rome around £99.
Prices will be fixed for four weeks, and advertised via leaflets in-store, before being replaced by another round of new offers. Customers can book all the holidays over the phone or via the Aldi website, alditravel.co.uk (which goes live 8 January).

It all depends on where in the world and at what discount compared to other holiday companies. If it's a good price with all the usual things covered, then why not.

I think this is a fab idea and yes, I would buy from a supermaket. At these prices I am sure they will take off, as would the idea of saving stamps for groceries in store, which could offset the price of your holiday if you were allowed to save for it in this way.

I can't wait to see what aldi have to offer in the way of holidays and breaks. Aldi is such good value and quality anyway that I'm sure what they do offer will be excellent and at an excellent price
