DETECTIVE WORK PAYS OFF
Lastminute.com has great deals on ‘top secret hotels’, where your accommodation is revealed once payment has been made. But, by pasting the hotel description into Google, you should be able to find the one you’re about to book, as the description is often taken from the hotel’s website. This means you can check that you’re getting the best deal for your money.
FREE NIGHTS, ANYONE?
If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a variety of ways to bag free accommodation. Couchsurfing.com allows you to find couches you can sleep on in practically every country across the world. Or work on a farm for food and board (visit Help Exchange) and, if all else fails, don your raincoat, grab the tent pegs and go camping.
LOOK FOR LATE DEALS
Tour operators buy rooms and flights in advance and they have to sell them to make money. The longer you leave it, the lower the price falls, and the more desperate they become to reel you in with a bargain.
BID FOR YOUR ROOM
Priceline.co.uk offers luxury hotel rooms at substantial discounts. You specify the area, star level and price you’re looking for, then you are allocated a room once you’ve paid. Sounds risky? Apparently, one user at moneysavingexpert.com secured six nights in the Sheraton Times Square for £336 rather than the usual £1,200 price.
