We can’t get enough of superhero films, at least Hollywood seems to think so. The industry is churning out impressive comic book adaptations at a remarkable rate.
2016 looks set to be an action-packed year on-screen, boasting bound-to-be-blockbusters featuring compelling underdogs, vigilantes, reclusive geniuses, anti-heroes, genetically engineered humans and villains we love to hate.
The plot in a nutshell: Apocalypse is a mutant, the first and most powerful in the X-Men universe who has sponged the powers of many other mutants in order to become immortal and indistructable. And guess what? This terrifying mutant has just woken up after a nap (that lasted many thousands of years) and he’s not happy. Apocalypse is determined to recruit a team of fellow mutants to create a new world order. A disillusioned Magneto (Michael Fassebender), included. In her role as Raven, Jennifer Lawrence rallies together with Professor X (James McAvoy) to try and defeat this malevolent mutant and save the world. Game of Thrones

Civil War picks up one year after the events chronicled in Avengers: Age of Ultron
Ryan Reynolds takes on the role of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool in this, Marvel’s 8th installment in the X-Men film series. Former special forces operative, Wilson, undergoes a medical experiment in an attempt to cure his cancer. You know what’s coming: the procedure has some unexpected results, leaving him with accelerated healing powers, disfigured skin and a dark, unstable mind. Wilson assumes the identity, Deadpool in order to seek revenge on the man who nearly destroyed his life. The film also stars Morena Baccarin (yup, that’s Jessica Brody from Homeland
