Sally Bercow has reportedly signed up to appear in Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother, exposing her husband to fresh controversy
The wife of Commons Speaker John Bercow is due to appear in the latest Celebrity Big Brother. The 41-year-old previously raised a few eyebrows after she posed in nothing but a bed sheet to cover her modesty.
Mrs Bercow will join X-Factor runners up Jedward, Kerry Katona and former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson on the series when it begins on 18th August.
But Tory MP Rob Wilson says: ‘John Bercow said he wanted to restore respect and dignity to Parliament in his manifesto for Speaker. I am not sure how Sally Bercow going on one of the country’s tackiest shows helps.’
This is not the first time Mrs Bercow has caused controversy. In February she posed provocatively in a sheet for the London Evening Standard’s ES magazine and in an accompanying interview explained how living in the Palace of Westminster has spiced up the couple’s love life.
The Speaker’s wife told the magazine: ‘I never realised how sexy I would find living under Big Ben with the bells chiming.’ In 2009, the former PR girl gave another detailed interview about her one night stands and binge drinking habits when she was single.
A Channel Five spokesman says: ‘Big Brother executives are currently in talks with a number of celebrities about appearing on the Channel 5 series, but are not confirming any names at the moment.’
