Michelle Obama's mother Marian Robinson celebrated her 80th birthday this weekend and Michelle commemorated the occasion with an emotional message on Instagram.

Sharing a throwback photo which isn't just adorable but shows how much of Michelle Obama's style is clearly from her mama.

As if we couldn't love the former FLOTUS any more, especially after her interview with Meryl Streep, she goes and writes this: 'Happy Birthday Mom! Your unconditional love has made me who I am today. You are my rock. My ,” the former first lady wrote. “I’ll always be your Miche. I love you.'

And the feeling is, of course mutual, with the former first lady's mother-in-law complimenting her daughter's 'grace.' Back in 2009, she talked about how Michelle would cope in The White House to Essence, and said: 'I never doubted that she could do this. She is doing it with such grace and dignity. So I am just proud. I just hope she does what she wants to do.'

Marian used to tell press that Michelle was always a great woman, having been quoted saying 'you came here that way, I just stayed out of your way,' but Michelle has been quick to correct her, telling The View: 'That's not how I saw it. My mom is an incredibly intelligent and insightful person about life in general. From the time we could talk, she talked to us endlessly about any and everything with a level of openness and fearlessness that made us believe that we were bright enough to engage with an adult, that we were worthy enough to ask questions and to get really serious answers—and she did it with a level of humour.'

If that's not enough to get you crying tears of beauty and joy inside, we don't know what is.
