World and mankind at risk in environmental debt

Al Gore Live Earth BIG

'HUMANITIY'S VERY SURVIVAL,' is at risk, according to a horrifying report from the United Nations.

The environmental audit, which involved 1,400 scientists, discovered the rate mankind has used up the world's resources over the past two decades could spell the end for humanity.

With the 'point of no return' fast approaching, the United Nations Environment Programme pleads for urgent action, predicting catastrophic results unless its warning is taken seriously.

Currently, every one of us needs a third more land than is available to fulfil all our needs. As it stands, 30% of amphibians, 23% of mammals and 12% of birds all face extinction.

Achim Steiner, the executive director of United Nations Environment Programme, said: 'The systematic destruction of the earth's natural and nature-based resources has reached a point where the economic viability of economies is being challenged - and where the bill we hand on to our children may prove impossible to pay.'
