We celebrated eleven incredible women on Thursday night at the annual Marie Claire Future Shapers awards. Here's all the details from inside the party.
Eleven brilliant women were celebrated in style on Thursday night at Marie Claire’s Future Shapers Awards, in partnership with Neutrogena.
Marie Claire’s annual event, which honours women doing brilliant, agenda-pushing work in a range of fields (tech, law, fashion, activism) took place this year at One Marylebone.
The winners included counter-extremism campaigner Sara Khan, Iseult Ward – who set up anti-waste start-up FoodCloud – and Phoebe Gormley, Savile Row’s very first tailor exclusively for women.
Each winner was presented with their award by Marie Claire editor Trish Halpin and publishing director Justine Southall. Fresh from competing in the Rio Olympics, athletics star Katarina Johnson-Thompson also came up on stage to present an award to Future Shapers winner Samantha Payne, co-founder of Open Bionics, a company which makes affordable bionic hands for amputees.
Celebrity guests at the event included Lilah Parsons, Millie Mackintosh and Billie JD Porter, who headed upstairs after the ceremony to play a set on the decks, while the bar served Cointreau cucumber and basil cocktails and guests nibbled on lobster arancini and salt beef bagels. There was also a Neutrogena GIFGIF photobooth on hand to capture some of the assembled crowd’s best moves.
At the party, guests were also encouraged to join Marie Claire‘s new online initiative #PassItOn, which aims to spread and share useful pieces of career advice. Last night’s advice ranged from ‘don’t compare and despair’ to ‘don’t drink so much’ (advice a few party guests might have wished they’d followed this morning.)
