Women need educating on heart disease
By Kasie Davies on Thursday 11 February 2010
New research has revealed that women know very little when it comes to heart and circulatory disease, despite it being the main cause of death in the UK.
According to a new study, called Go Red for Women, almost a third of women polled didn't know the symptoms of heart disease or that it is the number one killer of women around the country.
When it comes to prevention, many of the women surveyed admitted to seeking help from therapies that aren't scientifically proven.
A shocking 69% believe multivitamins help prevent heart problems, while 29% think aromatherapy was a preventative strategy
Classic symptoms of a heart attack include heaviness in the chest, shortness of breath, seating, pain radiating to the jaw or down both arms.
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense and people have no doubt what is going on.
However, most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. People affected in this way often don't know what is wrong and wait too long before getting help.
See your GP immediately if you experience similar symptoms.
