A third of bras sold are the wrong size
By Kasie Davies on Monday 25 January 2010
Buying a fabulous bra is difficult at the best of times, but according to a recent undercover investigation, 29% of women are falling at the first hurdle by purchasing the wrong size.
The study carried out by Which? found that under a third of bras sold to British women are the correct fit. In some cases, women are being sold wildly varying sizes according to what shop they go in.
Out of the 70 high street specialist shops surveyed, not one provided a service that was good enough to recommend.
In one case, a woman ranged from a 34FF to a 40DD. In another case, two women aged 30 and 75 were sold the same Wonderbra-style brasserie in La Senza, despite the fact that it fitted neither.
According to experts, a badly fitted bra does not only look awful, but can cause health concerns such as neck, shoulder and back ache and poor posture.
Chiropractor Tim Hutchful, said: ‘Wearing the wrong bra can aggravate your posture and stoop you forward. Your muscles are then forced to work much harder and this can lead to pain in the neck, upper back and arms.'
Out of all the stores surveyed, John Lewis and Bravissimo received the best scores - but unfortunately still too poor to recommend.
Annette Warburton, Debenhams' head of lingerie buying said: ‘We welcome the feedback from Which? and will be incorporating this into our training.'

I was recently measured, in store, and told the bra I was wearing was wrong size for me. Was measured, ordered picked up week later, the bra is not good fit - cup not sitting well and bra is tight underneath.Feel I was "persuaded" in store and now out over £30.Really dissapointed!
