The apple that keeps Michelle Obama's wrinkles at bay

Michelle Obama - Celebrity News - Marie Claire Rex Features

The secret of Michelle Obama's youthful looks may be a rare Swiss apple with an exceptionally long shelf-life.

According to the US edition of Vogue, the-mum-of two is a big fan of a certain £215 serum, which uses an extract from the stem cells of the Uttwiler Sptlauber apple.

The variety stays fresh for up to four months after being harvested, long after other varieties have become wrinkled.

Dubbed 'the super apple' by the magazine, stem cells from the fruit are said to encourage human skin stem cells to protect skin cell regeneration and delay the onset of wrinkles. They are also thought to defend skin against UV radiation.

The fruit is being hailed in the cosmetic world as an exciting anti-ageing breakthrough and its extracts have been snapped up by around 100 beauty firms in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including Lancôme and Chantecaille.

Mibelle Biochemistry, a company currently conducting research into the claims, made a cream containing a two per cent Uttwiler Sptlauber extract and applied it twice daily to the 'crow's feet' area under the eyes of 20 participants. They found that wrinkle depth was reduced by an average of 15 per cent after four weeks.

'We thought there must be something in those apples which gives them their long shelf life,' the Telegraph quoted Beata Hurst, marketing and sales manager at Mibelle Biochemistry, as saying.

Fancy trying a little apple extract yourself? Luxe beauty brand 3Lab uses it in its Super 'h' Serum, £215, M cream, £185, and Super C Serum, £70, all of which are available to buy at Harrods.

Just read the hilarious captions for the Crillon Ball photos, has somebody got something against Kathy Lette? or does she really drink too much coffee?
