Women clamour for Nicole Kidman's ‘fertility water’

The waters of several remote Australian swimming holes are suddenly in high demand after Nicole Kidman claimed they helped her, and several other women, conceive their children.

During the filming of Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia in 2007, Kidman and crew members from the film cooled off in creeks and water holes in and around the outback town of Kununurra.

Weeks later Kidman, who has two adopted children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, discovered she was pregnant with her first child, Sunday Rose. Another six women working on the film also fell pregnant.

Following the birth last year the actress attributed her pregnancy to the waters of Kununurra.

‘There is something in the Kununurra water,’ she said. Aborigines also believe the pools have magical properties.

Now women across the world who are desperate to have a baby are clamouring for bottles of the water. The would-be mothers are pleading with tourism officials to send them water.

But tourism officials have said they can’t post out the water and implored the women to visit the town instead. ‘We try to dissuade these women from being sent the water because of the difficulties of collecting and transporting it,’ a spokeswoman said. ‘We encourage them to come here for a swim if that's what they want.’

It is great that these women got pregnant, but I wouldn't want others dealing with fertility issues to get false hopes. Maybe these waters do have some mystical power, but I'd love to also know if Nicole Kidman was also undergoing fertility treatments at the time. I understand this is a personal issue, but if we could get some celebrities to talk about their personal journeys it could really help the 7.3 Million Americans that are struggling with infertility.
