Speaking in New York this week at the Time 100 Most Influential Dinner, and Mrs Obama debuted a sleek pulled back 'do, with sweeping side-swept fringe.

Bangs, whether blunt or shaggy, have become an A-list must-have for stars seeking an easy way to update their spring look – Keira Knightley, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez have all recently gone for the chop.

The political style icon didn't disappoint in the fashion stakes either. She wowed in a slinky Azzedine Alaïa floor-length black gown, accessorised with multiple jet bead necklaces.
