Is sex a cure for hayfever?
By Ellie O'Mahoney on Monday 6 April 2009
At last some good news amongst the economic gloom. New research shows that hayfever symptoms can be alleviated by sexual intercourse.
Iranian scientists have discovered a link between the nasal and reproductive systems. They claim that sex constricts the blood vessels, which unblocks bunged up noses and clears streaming eyes.
Experts at the Tabriz Medical University are yet to carry out clinical trials to prove their theory. But if their hypothesis is correct then antihistamine tablets, used to treat the summer condition, and which have been linked to high blood pressure and blocked noses, could be a thing of the past.
Neurologist Sina Zarrintan claims his method would be a lot more pleasurable and far cheaper.
‘It can be done from time to time to alleviate the congestion and the patient can adjust the number of intercourses depending on the severity of the symptoms,’ he said.
Not everyone agrees though. Mohammed Amin Abolghassemi Fakhree from Tabriz University poured scorn on the idea.
‘There are limitations in using ejaculation as a treatment of nasal congestion, such as not being applicable out of the home and not having a sex partner.’
As they say, if something sounds too good to be true - it probably is.
