Women still do more housework
By Elizabeth Heathcote on Monday 16 March 2009
Women still spend an average 50 per cent more time on housework and childcare than men, according to a new survey.
The research, reported in the Telegraph, found that women devote an average 74 hours a week to domestic tasks and childcare, compared to 53 hours per week for men.
However, the results are skewed by the amount of time devoted to these tasks by full-time mothers, who spend an average 82 hours per week on household jobs. Women who work full time devote 55 hours to chores and childcare.
The research was carried out by the insurer Legal and General, who estimates it would cost £32,812 to pay for the domestic work the average woman performs.
