Latest detox craze? Cactus juice
Are you abstaining from the booze and dabbling in healthy potions this month? If you haven’t stumbled across the perfect detox yet, then the latest health craze, a cactus smoothie, could fulfil your cleansing needs.
Created by health eaterie Crussh, the detox drink is derived from the La Nopalea cactus, grown in the mountainous regions of Mexico.
The spiky plant is renowned for its health benefits which cleanse the liver and colon. Packed with high levels of antioxidants like Vitamins A, C and Bs, the plant also provides a rich source of fibre and hydration, thank to its high water levels.
We’re not the first ones to cotton on, however. Families in Mexico have made use of the plant for centuries, knowing that cactus juice is a wonder potion for keeping bodies healthy.
The owner of La Nopalea cactus farm, Haracio, explained: ‘Here in Milpa Alta, we have been growing and using the La Nopalea cactus for generations. We eat the paddles as food and drink the revitalising juice every morning to kick-start our day. I truly believe it is what keeps my family and the Mexican people so healthy and happy.’
So if you’re convinced, then make a beeline for your nearest Crussh store fast – the smoothies are only on sale through January and February.
