Eat Quorn: protect your heart

Quorn mince, Health news, Marie Claire

Quorn, every veggie's favourite meat substitute, has been shown to protect against heart attacks.

The secret ingredient inside Quorn, mycoprotein (which is grown from fungus), has been shown to reduce cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease, leading experts to champion its widespread consumption.

And that's not all. Researchers are hailing it a fantastic diet food, too, thanks to mycoprotein's brilliant ability to make the body feel full long after it's been eaten.

In a study reported in the British Nutrition Foundation journal, people who ate 190g of mycoprotein every day for three weeks saw their cholesterol levels drop by an average of 14%; those who ate between 120g and 140g had a 10% drop.

Currently eaten mainly by vegetarians, Quorn can be purchased as a mince or in chicken-like chunks, and also in a range of ready-made meals. However, today's headlines could see a whole new group of people adding it to their weekly shop.
