Morning-after pill free at Xmas
The morning-after pill will be given out for free in the run-up to the Christmas holidays at special clinics around the country.
The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) says with many chemists and family planning clinics closed during the festive period their clinics will be on hand to prescribe free morning-after pills for those who need them.
As it currently stands, doctors and family planning clinics can prescribe the morning-after pill, however, it is also available over-the-counter for around £26 from chemists and pharmacies.
'Sex isn't always planned or prepared for,' the chief executive of The British Pregnancy Advisory Service, Ann Furedi, points out.
'It's easy to get carried away, which is why we advise women to back up their birth control by keeping the morning-after pill at home.
'You don't wait until you get a headache to buy your pain relief. Why wait until you've risked pregnancy to get the morning-after pill?'
Furedi hopes by offering it for free, women will be better prepared for condoms splitting or contraceptive pills forgotten over the holidays.
The British Pregnancy Advisory Service has clinics in Birmingham, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cardiff, Coventry, Leeds, London, Luton, Peterborough and Swindon.

What century was Jane born in? Yes . It is more sensible to use protection in the first place, but sometimes, mistakes are made, and sometimes there are accidents, condoms split, and The Pill can be forgotton, so its better to have a back up plan so to speak, than have to go through the trauma of abortion or bring an unwanted child into the world.
This is not immoral. It is a current issue that relates to many women and so it makes perfect sense to publish in a womens magazine.
