Eat grapes: live longer
Grapes could be the latest fruit to boast life-lengthening benefits after scientists discovered they can lower high blood pressure.
A study carried out by the University of Michigan has shown that the humble grape acts as a shield against blood pressure.
All three shades of the fruit – black, green and red – contain high levels of natural antioxidants that reduce hypertension, owing to the flavanoids found in the skin, pulp and seeds.
Experiments were conducted on rats over an 18-week period and researchers discovered the animals who ate the grape-enriched powder experienced lower blood pressure, better heart function and reduced inflammation in their bodies.
Head researcher Mitchell Seymour commented on the results saying: 'These findings support our theory that something within the grapes themselves has a direct impact on cardiovascular risk, beyond the simple blood-pressure-lowering impact that we already know can come from a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.'

Grapes have been known for their beneficial health effects for centuries. The figure in Culpepper's book of herbs. That's why they're traditionally given to patients in hospital.

A shield against blood pressure entirely? I understand high blood pressure is a major killer in the UK but to rid us of blood pressure altogether would be a mistake and one you wouldn't have the time to regret afterwards.
I went to my doctor recently about low blood pressure (which in itself is not good) the advice she gave me was "take everything with a pinch of salt" I'm not sure if she meant it literally or metaphorically.
