Ladies in red more attractive to men

Next time you're planning your wardrobe for a hot date, reach for the LRD – the little red dress – after new research claims men find women wearing red more attractive and desirable.

A recent study revealed men said they would spend more money on a woman wearing red, compared with the same woman wearing blue.

But scientists said what it really comes down to is primal instincts – in short, men associate the crimson shade with sex.

Forget traditional associations of romance and red roses on Valentine's Day, red is really the shade that fires up amorous feelings in men, say researchers.

Over 100 men were quizzed about pictures of women and asked to rate how pretty they were, how much they would like to kiss them and how much they would like to have sex with them.

The findings revealed that men would spend nearly twice as much on a date dressed in red, compared to her wearing blue.

Professor Andrew Elliot, who led the research, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, said: 'It's fascinating to find that something as ubiquitous as colour can be having an effect on our behaviour without our awareness.'
