Ann Summers pulls chocolate sex toy spread
Ann Summers has been forced to pull thousands of its popular chocolate products from shelves after they were contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine.
The sex shop chain suffered the blow after tests on some of their top novelty products showed levels of the chemical were up to 100 times greater than the limits officially allowed by the European commission.
If you were planning a purchase of chocolate willy spread, a similar nipple spread or a novelty pen set, then think twice, as the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an alert to avoid the items – all of which were imported from a Chinese manufacturer called Le Bang.
China has been at the centre of a health scare after baby milk products were contaminated with the same chemical, melamine, and a number of babies died after consuming milk formulas.
The FSA said the removal of the chocolate products was precautionary and the risk was low. 'This is a first. We've never had to put out an alert before on willy spread, chocolate-flavoured or otherwise.'
A spokesperson for Ann Summers responded: 'As a responsible retailer we have tested all of our chocolates and even before the FSA alert was issued had taken all relevant steps to remove the chocolate willy spread product that could be affected by this issue.'
