Women fear conceiving naturally

Foetus

Over half of women would consider having a baby with a friend if they reached a certain age and did not have a partner.

Women between the ages of 28 and 32 were quizzed over their thoughts on fertility and two thirds of them admitted they feared that they wouldn't be able to conceive naturally.

The survey, conducted by vitamin firm Vitabiotics, also questioned men on the subject and revealed that they too worry about their ability to have children.

The preference for 56% of women would be to have a baby with a friend, should they not have found a suitable partner. And three quarters of women agreed that the stress of trying to conceive a baby could lead to a relationship crumbling.

Alarmingly, over a third of people admitted they would think twice about continuing a relationship if they discovered their other half was infertile.

Psychologist Linda Papadopoulos commented on the results: 'No longer do we see the mum, dad and 2.4 children as the only ideal. Reconstituted families, same-sex families and single parents are much more prevalent these days.

And rather than subscribing to the 'norm' it seems that women and men are more flexible with their definition of 'family'.
