Celery latest 'superfood'
Celery looks set to join watercress and strawberries as a must-eat superfood after scientists discovered it can help fight mental health diseases.
A study has shown that the compounds lutolin and diosmin, both of which occur naturally in celery, could help fight Alzheimer's and other similar diseases.
'The compounds have few side effects and are available as dietary supplements,' says Dr Terrence Town of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.
So far, the research has only taken place on mice and further human-based research will have to take place before any conclusive results can be published.
However, Dr Susanne Sorensen, of the Alzheimers Society, tells The Times: 'We know a healthy balanced diet can reduce dementia risk. This work reinforces the need to eat a diet rich in fruit and vegetables.'

Hope it works for psychoses (voices, in my case mostly through stress, OCD, phobias, bullying, I do believe).
I have been plagued for fourteen years, seven without let up (ie no HOURS free of voices for seven years but that was mainly due to anti social behaviour up north, thank god that's over and I'm away from such ignorant people) so it would take a lot more than healthy diet and the meds only alleviate, do not cure. I do eat a healthy diet and it seems to help (bar green tea which makes me mentally VERY psychotic and led me to think at one stage I'd never lose weight without worsening voices as I used it to depress appetite and always got mentally very ill), but unfortunately some people never get better fully and I seem to be one of them, also plagued by 'blank' periods and struggling to think much of time.
I am interested in trying the brain allergies rotation diet which is adhered to in America now and regarded highly by the American Medical Association, sadly the NHS think you're nuts and a hypochondriac if you mention it. But it involves cutting out foods that you have a bad psychiatric reaction to. I am sure wheat and milk give me psychotic depression, confusion appetite changes etc, cutting them out really helps and means my face does not swell up also.
