The anti-shyness pill
By Carla Bevan on Thursday 15 May 2008
A new drug claims to be the cure for shyness, depression and anxiety.
Oxytocin is a natural 'cuddle hormone' which is released into the brain during sex, and has long been used by doctors to help induce labour and stimulate milk in new mothers.
Now, scientists believe it could be used as a wonder drug to treat all manner of personality problems.
As well as being used to treat extremely shy individuals, doctors believe it could help autistic children recognise emotions in other people, something they often find difficult.
'I'm absolutely convinced that we should study administering oxytocin when there is an early diagnosis of autism, but it is difficult to get permission to administer to children,' Dr Markus Heinrichs, of the University of Zurich, told New Scientist.

Sounds great. I'd love to try a new solution to anxiety and depression. I bet it's years before it becomes available though.

I really hope this works as I would love a cure for my 8 year old daughters shyness and anxiety. Maybe then other children will stop picking on her and she can make more friends.

I find the inference that shyness is a problem akin to autism, or linked to it, highly offensive - not to mention linking it with anxiety and depression. Not being outgoing is hardly a disorder that needs treatment! My boyfriend is extremely shy, but he is happy and popular and we have a wonderful relationship and he certainly does not have a 'problem' that needs treating. Perhaps there should be a pill to treat people who are too pathetic to cope with other people being a bit different... ?

Shyness is a severe problem and ruins chances in lives.
(If disgruntles May 15)boyfriend is very popular then he is not shy, shy people hide in the shadows and cannot make much conversation. She does not know what she is talking about. Sandy.
