Sperm donors get free gig tickets
By Carla Bevan on Friday 14 March 2008
Sperm donors in Europe are being offered free tickets to music festivals in return for their donations.
The brains behind www.spermfortickets.com, David Clayton, said he was contacted by a private fertility clinic in the Republic of Ireland (where sperm donations have gone down by 40% in the past four years), to pilot a new scheme, whereby sperm can be donated from around the world, thanks to a special container which keeps sperm alive for up to three days.
'Together we decided to focus on festival-goers as they are in the right age bracket and spend a lot of time on the internet,' Clayton tells The Times.
Applicants to the site were asked to choose a European festival of their choice, however, the uptake has been so great, the offer has already had to be halted.
'The purpose of the spermfortickets.com website was to test market interest through a pilot scheme. Applications for donation packs have far exceed the expectations,' a message posted on the site this morning explains.
'Our clients are calling a halt to the invitation to apply for packs, and will review the results of the scheme to decide on how to proceed.'
