Happy relationships prevent heart disease
NOT ALL RELATIONSHIPS are good for your health say scientists but the latest study reveals that people who do not have enough emotional support from their partner are more prone to heart disease.
Scientists at University College London tracked over 9,000 people for 12 years and found those who lack emotional support from their other half have a 34% increased risk of heart disease than those in supportive relationships.
Participants were asked how much they felt able to open up to their partner, if talking about problems made matters worse and to what degree their partner offered support.
Those in the most harmful relationships were found to be 1.34 times more likely to suffer complaints such as a heart attack, angina or chest pain than those who rated their partner the most highly.
