Kim Kardashian And Naked Selfie-Gate Sparked A CopyCat Mural And Totally Unexpected Fashion Trend

What was your first thought when Kim Kardashian posted that naked selfie last week?

Well for one street artist in Australia it was 'how can my art capture the Kim-selfie-zeitgeist?' and they set about covering a three-storey building with a giant painting of Kim's naked form.

Yep, the naked picture to end all naked pictures has been emblazoned in mural form accross a Melbourne building by street artist Lush Sux who said its creation took 'as long as it took Kim Kardashian to get 100,000 comments on the original photo of herself in the nude.'

So…under 5 minutes then?

Here's how the street art looked all its glory upon completion:

And here's how it looked literally three hours later *sigh*:

And Kim's selfie also spawned a new copycat fashion trend because after the original pic went up on Instagram a whole lot of fashion fans also thought; ‘how can I get my hands on one of those super-chic blur-out bars, stat?'

Yes, following the naked selfie-gate, fashion e-tailer Lyst has reported a 406% surge in searches from shoppers looking for ‘black bandeau’ tops on their website.

It seems that the Photoshopped black box that Kim added to her pic to, ahem, protect her modesty has started a very real trend amongst people who want to recreate that look in their everyday wardrobes.

Below, the selfie that started the trend; 'When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL.'

The most viewed style on Lyst (a Lisa Marie Fernandez bikini top) had over 82,000 page views from customers hoping to recreate Kim's 'sexy censored' look, the retailer tells us. Other tops by All Saints, ASOS, Onia and La Perla also experienced huge spikes in sales thanks to the pics.

Kim’s sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner were amongst the first to jump on the trend, both showing that they were ‘team Kim‘ in their matching black crop tops within hours of the Twitter row.

Seeing as Kim’s not even been wearing any clothes throughout this whole thing, we’ve got to acknowledge that her ability to start a new sartorial trend is astounding, isn't it?
